![]() Model W's victims spanned from wild Mechaniloids, to Serpent, to Albert himself.Ĭyber Peacock is an example of a reprogrammed Maverick. ![]() In the Mega Man ZX series, Model W could influence both organic and inorganic beings into "Mavericks", a term which had grown broad by that time and was used for any dangerous being. The Dark Elf and Baby Elves were used to brainwash Reploids in the Mega Man Zero series, forcing them to obey their master (such as Elpizo or Omega). Examples include the Sigma Chips from Mega Man X2, the Limited from Rockman X Mega Mission, and the Worms from the Rockman X3 manga. There are a host of other malicious hardwares which can brainwash Reploids, similar to viruses but not digital in nature. Gate planned to spread the Nightmare Virus in a bid for world domination. Upon infection, Nightmare Viruses rewrite the Reploid's programming and reduce them to zombie-like husks. This virus is unique in that it takes a physical form similar to a Mechaniloid, which can physically grab Reploids in order to infect them. The Nightmare Virus is a particular manifestation of the Nightmare created by the Reploid scientist Gate. Little is actually revealed about this virus, except that when it came into contact with the Sigma Virus, the two merged and became the Zero Virus. It caused the colony's failure and subsequent crash. The Colony Virus was a new virus planted by Dynamo into the Space Colony Eurasia, hence the name. In Mega Man X7, a version known as "Sigma Virus Mk.II" is identified in the possession of Aluce, but it is unknown if it differs from the original virus. A cure for the virus was finally found with the creation of the Mother Elf. They usually cannot be restored, because their very data is corrupted, and for years such Reploids could only be destroyed. These Mavericks often deliberately target humans and Reploids defending humans, following Sigma's own prejudice. It functions similarly to the Maverick Virus, but with the added capacity for Sigma's mind to live within the virus and suggest commands to his victims. His brain's advanced circuitry fought the virus until they merged, allowing Sigma to become a unique Maverick with control of the virus. It is an evolution of the Maverick Virus formed after Sigma's infection. The Sigma Virus is the most infamous and widespread virus in the Mega Man X series. Zero himself was a flawed Maverick at first, being unwilling to obey orders as well as relishing in causing destruction due to a flaw in his cognitive program. Crush Crawfish is another example, being a military Reploid who failed to differentiate targets and attacked indiscriminately. ![]() Wire Sponge is the first major Maverick described with a programming flaw, though he was designed to be a Maverick from the start. Frequent outbreaks and the Mavericks hacking the devices themselves, however, brought on a gradual increase to the Maverick threat. At first, these Mavericks could be dealt with via emergency shutdown devices leading to repairs. It is not by choice that they are Maverick, but rather because their malfunctioning minds make them act dangerously with no consideration of the consequences. Flawed/Error Mavericks Ĭrush Crawfish is an example of an error Maverick.Įarly cases of Reploids and Mechaniloids becoming Mavericks were due to their mental routines and programming suffering from manufacturing bugs. These standards are set by human ethics, but because Reploids are stronger than humans, punishments for Mavericks are far greater than would be warranted for humans, often resulting in extended prison time, deactivation, or outright euthanasia. The term describes criminal Reploids who engage in immoral behaviors such as murder, robbery, and vandalism. Reasons for "going Maverick" may include software bugs, viruses, reprogramming, or even their own free will. There is no single cause for a Reploid or Mechaniloid to be considered a Maverick.
